Turkey trot 2011- 10k- Beaumont, Texas

Turkey trot 10k done! There are times along the way that I feel like taking the shortcut, but then remember my goals.

Love how running has helped me to apply even that simple principle in my everyday life ! Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Turket Trot-Beaumont, Texas 2012

In my last post, I was talking about an injury that occurred earlier in April 2012.  I woke up one morning and my neck/shoulder was in the most excruciating pain.  I have to say this was close to the pain I felt when delivering my babies and I’m not even kidding.  I can laugh about it now, although I’m still not completely over it, but it definitely was awful!:)  It put me out of commission for quite some time.  I could not even begin walking properly for several months after that.  I started to believe my running career was over!  I refused to believe it however.  I did everything I could think of to relieve the pain, but I think some of it was that time just had to heal.  I went to this amazing chiropractor, Dr. Torry Hinson, right here in Houston.  I was able to finally feel a sense of hope–a sense that I could actually do this “put one in front of the other” thing again!  So–I signed up for a few races and was determined to do them.
This Turkey Trot is kindof a tradition we do either here in Sugar Land or down in our hometown, Beaumont, Tx.  We usually do this race with my sis and her family–we selfishly do this so we can eat more turkey you know?:)    I was happy to have so many of my family participate in this race with me!  That sure made it special.  This was a very difficult race for me.  At times, I felt the tears about to roll down, but I kept telling myself that I could do this.  I still had some pain when I wanted to pick up the pace.  One of the greatest things that I love about running races?  My family waiting for me at the finish line or at the sidelines along the way cheering me on.  If you have never run a race, you will know what I mean when you run one with your family.  It’s the most awesome feeling and it really pulls me through.  So–5k Turkey Trot.I conquered you!!  Onward I go!:)
