RaceUSA Mobile App is Lauching–Are You Ready??

Hello all!!

Well it’s been some time since I have updated my blog! Life has been pretty crazy!!!    I have been involved in a 90-day app challenge.  You can read about what it’s all about here:  http://www.90dayappchallenge.com

One of the things I wanted to let you know about is that I am create a running app! That’s right–a runner’s dream app! Here’s a pic of my logo:

Pretty neat huh??:)  It will be launching into the Apples I-tune store during the Christmas Holidays!!

As you can tell from the logo, the name of the app is RaceUSA!!!  What is it you may ask?

RaceUSA is a runner’s dream app.  You will be able to pick a race to run from the list of thousands across the US.  There will be a personal log to track your progress, as well as a GPS to map  your runs.  Fitness plans and videos are also included to help offer tips and advice to ensure your success.  One of the greatest features is the ability to raise money for charity.   Pick a race, pick a charity, and invite your friends and family to participate with you.  What a great way to give back and to pay it forward.

If you have a facebook account, you can connect with the Facebook Page there.  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Race-USA-App/453117598083711

So be on the lookout for updates and alerts!  It’s going to be an amazing app for sure!!  In the meantime, I’m still recovering from my neck/shoulder injury that happened back in April.  I”ll be posting some pics and stories about the Turkey Trot Race in the next several days…stay tuned!!  Happy Thanksgiving!

“Why I Run” — by Joy Packard

Everyone has their own reasons of why they run. For some, it’s to meditate, for others, it might be to beat a personal time. Yet for some, it’s to get fit. First of all, I never have thought of myself as a runner. Even to this day, it sounds kind of funny to me. :) I did not like to run when I was in high school, even though they asked me countless times to be in Track. Me? Track? I was a tennis player! :) Finally, one day, my sister, said..”Hey…let’s run a 5k! There’s one in your area!” At first, my thoughts were, “What? Run? I don’t run!” :) I decided to give it a try and all I can say is that after that first race, there’s no other feeling when you cross that finish line. It is an amazing and incredible feeling!! After that, I was hooked!

For me, running has given me a goal to work towards as far as getting in shape. Signing up for races gives me the extra push that I need to become better. Running gives me the opportunity to think–to be able to meditate in my own strange way. I just put my earphones on and get lost in my own little world. No one to tell me what to do, no crying kids, no traffic, no anything–just me, my running shoes, my ipod, and the road ahead.

I have gotten my health back after having 8 kids. I have not yet perfected the “art of running” but I am trying day by day to do so. I want to be around for my kids and my grandkids. Health is everything–if you don’t have your health, it’s really hard to do anything else. So–just putting one foot in front of the other has gotten me to where I am today. I want to better each day–running has given me that opportunity. Until I run my full marathon, I’m keeping on until I get there.

So–why do I run? It’s been one of the best things for me to become who I am today. It has given me the ability to be a better person, a better mother, a better wife because I feel healthier and I feel accomplished. I will do everything it takes to cross that Finish Line. As they say…”If you can run a marathon, you can do anything.”

And that–is why I run…..

Well…I WON!!

Won what you might ask?? I saw an email from a local guy who puts on a lot of the local runs. He sent something that was inviting us to enter a contest. Contest? I love those things. ;) I had to write a story on “Why I Run.” Out of 1000 or so participants, they were to pick about 15 people to win an entry into the Houston Chevron Marathon–the 4th largest in the world. So…I thought..why not? Marathon entries are usually about $100.00, so I thought it would be worth my time. Well…lo and behold, I got an email a few weeks later informing me that my story got picked and that I was to receive an entry into the marathon! That was just the coolest feeling! The Chevron Marathon is closed already online, and the only way you can get in is thru a charity. So-I will be representing the Hamilton Vein Center and I’m very excited!

I’ll share with you my “Why I Run ” story next……

Inspirational Video: Running Down 120 Pounds

There are many things in life that inspire me–my parents, my family, my children..and then there’s RUNNING. ;)

I love how running let’s you focus on the here and now, on what YOU want to accomplish. Running is not an easy thing to do, but ANYONE can do it. I like to relate it to the fact that you just have to put one foot in front of the other…and “soon you’ll be walking across the floor.” :)

This video really inspires me. I encourage you to watch it and refer to it often–especially when you think that you can’t do accomplish your goals.

2nd 1/2 Marathon Update

Athens Greece Preparation

This past weekend, I witnessed 2 of my brother-in-laws run a full marathon. Wow–what an accomplishment! This, as most of you know, is one of my life-long dreams. I will be starting my “formal” training on Apr. 17th to prepare to run Marathon of all Marathons in Athens, Greece on November 13, 2011. I have to admit as I watched my brother-in-laws run, it did put a sense of doubt in myself. The reason is, I feel they are stronger runners than I am and they were having trouble. I know they have only been training for about 3 months, but still….it did put some doubt in my mind.

Then, I remembered why I’m doing this to begin with. It’s a goal–it’s on my bucket list. I KNOW I can do this and I WILL. I will be reading Jeff Galloway’s book called “Marathon” and learning all the ins and outs from what to wear all the way on how to run those hills in Athens. I will follow a plan–which is what we all must do. Even in life, we all follow a plan. Just stay the course and you will reach your goal.

It was so cool to run with my kids as well. The last 2 weekends, my youngest 3 entered the races and they loved it! How blessed I am that they are getting fitness-minded at such a young age!

Well, just a short post to let you know–all of us can run a marathon whether we think we can or not. I love that quote by Henry Ford, “Whether we think we can or we think we can’t, we are right.” Let’s all realize that we can accomplish anything in our life, as long as we set our minds to get it done. Happy Wednesday! :)

Dave’s Track Meet

So it was March 2, 2011 around 6 p.m. I was at my son’s track meet and of all days in Houston, Tx., it was actually starting to get cold out there! ;) The things we do as Moms to sit on the bleachers, cheer our kids, and freeze our buns off. :) Well, as you can see from this video you will watch, it was well worth it! Someday, I will run like my kids! :)
